Fred, sounds like a fascinating subject..even though i am from the New York worlds fair era i am more interested in the Chicago Century of Progress for some reason .

Fred, welcome; in response to your "wanted list" posting, are you in or close to Atlanta? If not, I am in Decatur, and can keep an eye out next time I'm at the antique stores in the area.

I grew up in Decatur. Lived on Sycamore Street near the Recreation Center. Moved to the North Decatur area during high school. Graduated from Decatur High School. In which area of Decatur do you live?

I'm near North DeKalb Mall, very close to I-285, Lawrenceville Highway, Ponce de Leon Avenue, and North Druid Hills. I will try to get to the antique and collectible shops along Ponce nearby to see if there are any materials for this member.

Cool collection! I love the Worlds Fairs, especially the structures created for them that have lived on. For instance, the main hall for the Columbian Exposition still exists in Chicago, as do relics from BOTH NY Worlds Fairs, set on the same grounds. And for the world's most famous temporary structure, The Eiffel tower was built for Worlds Fair and was supposed to be removed after a period of time.
As I work in engineering and architectural project management, every time someone in management tells me "do it quick and dirty, it's just a temporary thing", my response is "The Eiffel Tower was a temporary structure!"
So I thought I'd share my favorite Worlds Fair item. It's an admission ticket from the Columbian Exposition. Note that this was done to bank note quality and probably retained as a souvenir since this one has glue on the back as if it was in someone's photo album. This is on display in my glass top memory table. Once I get to creating my USA stamp album, this will be displayed along with the stamps.

I collect everything to do with the expositions held in Atlanta during the 19th century, i.e. The International Cotton Exposition of 1881, The Piedmont Expositions of 1887,1889,1890, and 1891 and the World's Fair held in Atlanta in 1895 known as the Cotton States & International Exposition (also known as the Atlanta Exposition). Philatelic items especially sought with the 1895 Atlanta Expo cancellations from the Post Office at the Expo. And then, all collectibles from the fair, books, photos, stereoviews, periodicals, souvenirs, etc. etc. Write to me at fredsbooks@yahoo.com or atlexpo95@gmail.com if you have the same interests or have anything to sell.
